The Chelsea boys Golf Team won the SEC White Division Conference Meet on Monday May 18 at Calderone Golf Club.
“We had a pretty good size lead heading into the season ending event, so I felt very confident. The Guys responded and played very well shooting a score of 326 and winning the White Division side of the Tournament by 19 shots and securing the League Title,” said Coach Joe Ewald.
Shooting a great score of 78 and taking the Medalist title was Sean Lyons.
Cross Lucas was the runner-up with an 80.
Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs was Jacob Hauser with an 83, and Ben Otto with an 85.
The state tournament got under way for the Bulldogs on Thursday, May 21, at Spring Meadows Country Club in Linden.
“Going in, I was very confident we would advance to regionals, but I thought we might be able to really make a statement,” said Ewald.
The Bulldogs did advance, “which is defiantly the number one goal, but we did it with a lackluster performance of 338, which defiantly did not make the statement I was looking for. “
The scores were very tightly bunched with the six teams advancing all shooting between 333 and 338, the coach said.
“I still feel very confident we can be one of the top 3 teams at the regional to advance to the state meet, if we shoot what we are capable of,” he said.
Scoring for Chelsea was Lucas Derosia with an 83, JJ Duncan was next with an 84, Jacob Hauser had an 85, and Sean Lyons shot an 86.
