Chelsea girls golf team finishes 2nd in regionals; heads to state meet

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Joe Ewald for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea girls golf team hosted regionals on Thursday Oct. 12 at Reddeman Farms.

The top three finishers at regionals qualify for the state meet.

“Going in, I knew we were one of the top 4 or 5 teams, but anything can happen, so I knew we still had to play well,” said coach Joe Ewald.

A couple of the girls got off to a great start, and half way through, I felt confident that we would qualify, and possibly win the event, Ewald said, adding “We didn’t finish quite as strong as I hoped, but we accomplished the main goal of moving on, and I was very proud of the girls.”

Marshall took the top honors with a 383. Chelsea was second with a 389, and Jackson Northwest grabbed the last qualifying spot with a 391

Scoring for the Bulldogs were Katelyn McKinley with her season best score of 86, Maddie Vasquez had a 97, Sam Pagliarini shot 101, and Julia VanReesema had a 105.

The girls will compete at the state meet Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20-21 at Forest Akers West.
