Susan Lackey was chosen to join the Chelsea District Library Board at a meeting on Nov. 17.
In a meeting that lasted nearly three hours, the board spent 20 minutes with each candidate and acknowledged the choice would be a difficult one.
Lackey told the board she is a lifelong library user and has been a loyal patron of the Chelsea library for 18 years. She said she sees herself as an advocate of the library and would add value to the board.
She recently retired as the executive director of the Legacy Land Conservancy and has a background in public affairs with an emphasis in planning.
Lackey resides in Sylvan Township with her husband, Steve, near the Waterloo Recreation Area. Many on the board were impressed with her executive experience and her passion for the library. She will replace longtime member Gary Zenz, who will step down at the end of the year.
Lackey was one of four interested folks to apply for the open position, which included Gary Munce, Anne Williams and Erik Stalhandske.
Another opening is expected to occur in January when Robin Wagner leaves the board. And, the City of Chelsea will be appointing a replacement for Susan Brown, who is also leaving the board at the end of her term.
