Girls track and field wins Stockbridge Invite

The Chelsea Girls Track and Field team came away with an impressive win at the Stockbridge Invitational with 113 points.

The next two schools were Jackson Northwest with 67.5 points and Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard with 61 points.

“We had a number of PRs from individuals and relay teams,” said coach Loren Thorburn, who added, “We hope to use this invitational experience in the SEC finals meet on May 13 and Regional meet on May 20 to reach our team and individual goals.”

He said, “We have a great group of young ladies who continue to learn how to compete at the next level.”

Highlights from the meet include:

Freshman Jordan Holton threw 93′ 8″ in the discus to place 4th, while Lily Francisco threw 90′ 4″ to place 6th.

Lily Francisco also placed 4th in the shot put with a throw of 31′ 5.0″.

Christine Schultz placed 1st in the pole vault with a jump of 9′ 6.0″ and Jenna Gileczek placed 3rd with a vault of 9′ 0.0″ (a PR).

The 4×800 relay team (Karana Wickens, Allison Hughes, Jacqueline Taylor, Jesse Jacobusse) placed 2nd with a time of 10:18.94 (a season best).

The 4×200 relay team (Sydney Matusik, Hannah Almhiemid, Christine Schultz, and Kaehla Manly) placed 2nd in a close race with a time of 1:48.98 (a season best).

Jesse Jacobusse placed 1st in the 1600m with a time of 5:21.61 (a PR) and 2nd in the 800m with a time of 2:23.64 (a PR).

Hannah Almhiemid placed 1st in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.07 (a PR).

Laney Miller placed 3rd in the 300m hurdles with a time of 50.91 (a season PR) and 5th in 100m hurdles with a time of 17.66 (a PR).

Karana Wickens placed 2nd in the 3200m run with a time of 11:54.26, while freshman Allison Hughes placed 3rd with a time of 12:06.36. These two girls continue to turn in consistent, solid performances in the distance races, the coach said.

Other notable performances came from Jad Gerweck, who continues to shave off times in the sprints (e.g., 29.24 in 200m dash) and Kyle Bragg in the 800m run with a time 2:38.69 (a PR).
