Frequently in my job I find myself helping students sort out friendship issues.
Inevitably, students will argue about who plays with whom at recess. It usually goes something like this: Friend A wants to play with both Friends B and C, but B and C don’t like each other, and don’t want to play together. Friend A feels bad, because she wants to play with both friends. Often, Friend B will tell Friend A that if she plays with Friend C, they can’t be friends anymore.
This opens up an interesting conversation about friendship dynamics and what it means to be a friend. I found the following activity on the website, Centervention.
I hope you will find it helpful in talking with your child about friendship.
