5 Healthy Towns Foundation and Chelsea reach settlement

Below is a press release issued by Amy Heydlauff, CEO 5 Healthy Towns Foundation:

“The City of Chelsea extended a settlement offer to 5 Healthy Towns Foundation (5HF) in the property tax dispute over Chelsea Wellness Center. The 5HF Board of Directors accepted the offer without countering.

The agreement will return property tax revenue collected by the City of Chelsea since early 2017. Chelsea Wellness Center, built by Chelsea Community Hospital in 2000, was exempt from property taxes until 2016. With this agreement the facility will once again be exempt.

“A commitment to community well-being is apparent in this decision,” said Amy Heydlauff, CEO, 5HF.  “We met together several times, always keeping the best interest of the community central to discussions. Our Board is grateful to the Chelsea City Council for reaching out to us with this offer.”

Chelsea Wellness Center offers about 25 different community education and exercise programs; from nutrition workshops to mind-body classes like yoga and water aerobics for those with arthritis. Many local health care providers refer their patients to the Wellness Center for diagnosis specific programming.

The Wellness Center is also home base for the Adult Learner’s Institute, Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea outpatient physical therapy and diabetes/nutrition education and 5 Healthy Towns Foundation.

For more information on community wellness classes please contact Chelsea Wellness Center at 734-214-0220 or www.chelseawellness.org.

5 Healthy Towns Foundation is a charitable, tax exempt foundation with a mission to cultivate improvements in personal and community wellness.”
