A great day across the board for Chelsea Track and Field.
The Bulldogs took on 15 other squads at Milan High School on a hot day.
“This was a true team victory,” said coach Eric Swager, who added, “Although we won only 3 of the 7 events, we scored points in 14 of those 17. “
Individual State Qualifiers:
Pole Vault – Dominic Guthre and Parker Olk
Shot Put – Ryan Scott
Discus – Aiden McGuire
3200 Run – Connell Alford and Erik Reiber
1600 Run – Connell Alford
110 and 300 Hurdles – Will Barhite
“Congrats to these athletes on a magical accomplishment,” the coach said, adding, “The ‘meat” of our scoring came from those who placed 3rd – 8th in each event, and also earned All-Region honors. This included all four relays, and many individuals who ran lifetime bests.”
Swager said, “My first 18 years of coaching, the Regional Title was very elusive – but we have managed to win every year since 2013. I believe that this is due to the quality coaching in events across the board, and the great participation and support that Chelsea provides year after year. I am truly blessed.”
Swager said for him, the event highlight of the meet was the 3200 run. “After a snappy first mile in 4:56, Chelsea’s pack took off like men possessed. They put the hammer down and decimated the field. We took places 1,2,3,5 and scored 28 points in that event alone – which sealed the victory for our squad.”
