Recent obituaries: Dean Frederick Fox, Dale L. Maurer

Dean Frederick Fox of Ann Arbor, age 73, went to be home with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on Thursday, May 17, 2018, following a two-year courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 12, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Robert Edison and Mildred (Steyer) Fox. On May 31, 1969 he married Christel Johnson of Princeton, New Jersey, and was a loving and faithful husband and father.

Mr. Fox accepted Christ as his Savior as a child and was a long-time member of Dexter Gospel Church where he served on the Welcome Team, as well as assisting with Daily Vacation Bible School.

He was an Eagle Scout at the age of 13 and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School. He received an MBA degree in Accounting from the University of Michigan. Mr. Fox was a US Army veteran and served in Vietnam in 1970 and 1971.

He was a CPA, having passed the exam on his first attempt. After working as a CPA for five years with a Big 4 CPA firm, he joined a predecessor of CitiMortgage. He retired from CitiMortgage, Farmington Hills, in 2000 as a Corporate Vice President. He previously served as Director of Audit and Controller.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 26, at 11 am at Dexter Gospel Church with Pastor Dan Robelen officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 25, 5-9 pm at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea and on Saturday, May 26, 10-11 am at Dexter Gospel Church. A luncheon will follow the service.

A private burial will be held at Harwick Cemetery, a family cemetery in Mattawan, Michigan.

Dale L. Maurer of Chelsea, formerly of Dover, OH, age 83, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018 at his home in The Pines.

He was born April 15, 1935 in Dover, OH, the son of A. Frank and Hazel (Henderson) Maurer.

Dale was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Dover, OH. He was a United States Army Veteran, who served in Germany as a Spec 4 at the Headquarter Company 6 Transportation Battalion. Dale was a member of the Masonic F and AM Lodge 57 in Dover, receiving his 32nd Degree from Valley of Canton, OH.

He worked for Firestone Tire for 30 years, and then for Dexter Schools for 15 years. Dale volunteered at the Chelsea Community Hospital for over 6,000 hours.

The family will receive friends at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, MI on Thursday, May 24 from 7-9 p.m. A Masonic service will be held Saturday, May 26, 1:30 p.m. at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover, OH. Burial with military honors will follow at Dover Burial Park, Dover, OH.
