Ballet Chelsea receives new funding for Adaptive Dance Programs

Ballet Chelsea was the recent recipient of three new grants to help with the development and implementation of new movement programs for people with disabilities.

Ballet Chelsea’s unique Adaptive Dance Program (ADP) provides specifically choreographed exercise programs for members of the community who have special needs whether through physical, mental and cognitive limitations.

The program began in 2015 and there are now 25 classes across Washtenaw County available each week with participants ranging from ages 3-93 years.

Each ADP class is tailor-made to the needs and abilities of the participants and aims to improve coordination and balance, endurance, flexibility and self-confidence.

“We thank Dexter Rotary and 5 Healthy Towns – Dexter Coalition for their recent generous support enabling new Adaptive Movement classes for Dexter High School students and Dexter Young Adults program to be available this fall,” said Jane Thompson, administrator for Ballet Chelsea’s Adaptive Dance Program.

In addition, Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor is supporting similar classes for students at High Point School in Ann Arbor during their summer program. This grant is made possible from revenue at the very popular weekly Kiwanis Thrift Sales on Staebler Road, Ann Arbor. This is a wonderful example of how recycling your unwanted and donated items can help others in the community

This Adaptive Dance Programs are also made available by generous support from foundations and private donors.

Ballet Chelsea also provides high caliber dance training for all ages and in many styles at their state-of-the-art studios in Chelsea.
