Chelsea boys track coach approached the team’s first SEC meets not really knowing where the athletes stood as a team.

He said more than half of this year’s squad consists of first year CHS track performers.

There were a lot of surprises as the Bulldogs came home with two wins – defeating Adrian 80-57 and downing Tecumseh 78-59.

Several highlights included:

Ben Yeasting, who got his first victories by sweeping the 300 hurdles and taking a first against Tecumseh in the 110 hurdles.

Josiah Fitch and Zach Sanborn each had huge lifetime bests in the shot put as well as placing in the discus.

Sprinters Colton Trevino and Brennan Van Riper, part of the victorious 4×200 relay and each placing in multiple individual events.

Ross Stofflett, winning high jump and placing in the long jump and 300 hurdles.

Dominic Guthre and Parker Olk, who both placed in the pole vault

The Bulldog distance crew was once again dominant, sweeping both the 1600 and 3200 runs and winning the 3200 relay.

Many other guys had lifetime bests, and contributed key 2nd and 3rd places.

“Overall, I was pleased with the execution and effort from the majority of our squad,” Swager said, adding, “We still need to improve quite a bit in specific focused areas, but I will always take a 2-0 start rather than the reverse. Congrats to all the guys.”
