The Michigan Classics travel fast pitch softball organization is a local Chelsea organization that has been around for a few years and recently played in a tournament in Chelsea.

On May 18-19, the Classics’ 12U team played in a local tournament called “Swing and Swim,” which includes a total of five games. three are played on Saturday and two on Sunday, says Susie Hines.

On Saturday, May 18, in pool play, they played Ann Arbor Gold and won 5-1. This was followed by a game against the Thunderbirds, which the Classics lost, 11-9. The team was down 11-2 and came back strong with seven runs, but it wasn’t quite enough to win, she said.

The last game on Saturday was against the South Lyon Stealth, which the Classics tied 5-5.

On Sunday in bracket play, the Classics were matched up against Ann Arbor Gold, and won 9-1 which eliminated AA Gold and sent the Classics to the championship game against the South Lyon Stealth.

The Classics lost a close one, 6-5, and finished in second place in the tournament.

Overall, they played extremely competitively against some very tough opponents, she said.

The girls who play on the team are mostly local Chelsea girls but there are from surrounding communities including Grass Lake, Tecumseh, and Pinckney.

The Classics holds tryouts each August and each respective coach of the different age teams, the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U, and players seen as a good fit are chosen for the respective teams.

The tournament organizers secured the Cameron pool in Beach Middle School and the girls got to swim Saturday following their games.
