You can support the Chelsea Area Service Club and cross out a few names on your holiday shopping list by purchasing the new Modern Mothers Legacy Cookbook at Polly’s Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

The cookbooks are $12 each and if you can’t make it to Polly’s on Saturday, you can get one by calling Mary Underwood at 475-8189 or Jane Shrosbree at 475-1711.

The cookbook includes recipes for appetizers, beverages, soups, salads, vegetables, side dishes and main dishes, breads and rolls, cookies, candy and other desserts. Money raised will go to Chelsea High School scholarships.

“The object of the Chelsea Area Service Club (formerly Modern Mothers) is to provide community service, education, and social enrichment,” said Chris Frayer, a member of the club’s program committee.

“Most years there are additional monies raised and donations have been made to various community groups such as Faith in Action and the Chelsea Library,” she says.

Modern Mothers was started in 1953 and changed its name to the Chelsea Area Women’s Service Club last year.

Every year, the group does a fundraiser, and published its first cookbook in 1973. Frayer says it was a big success and led to two printings of the cookbook.

The recipes in the new cookbook come from current and past members. “My personal family favorite recipe is a ‘Sour Cream Sugar Cookie’ recipe from my grandmother,” says Frayer. “It is a delicious cookie that always conjures up happy family memories.”

The club will have a table set up selling cookbooks near the front entrance of Polly’s Saturday from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
