(Chelsea Update would like to thank Reiley Curren for the information and photos in this story.)

SRSLY Cinema has shown more than 50 outdoor movies in Chelsea since it started in 2008. Now in its 6th season, SRSLY Cinema will show its 60th free outdoor movie on Aug. 14.

Families can enjoy this fun, substance-free entertainment every Thursday night behind the Clock Tower downtown.

Movies start at dusk, and moviegoers are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs, bug spray, and warm clothing. Local youth teams and clubs sell concessions as a fundraiser to support their activities.

Parents are encouraged to attend movies with their children to promote positive family involvement, and ensure a safe environment for all moviegoers.

SRSLY is able to keep this event free to the public thanks to our volunteers, and generous donations from community sponsors. Businesses, clubs, families and neighborhood groups provide funding to cover all expenses associated with outdoor movies, including licensing fees and equipment.

In addition to sponsors and volunteers, SRSLY Cinema receives in-kind support from area businesses and organizations in the form of donated services.

Chelsea High School students create public service announcements that are shown as previews before each movie.

Edgar Norman Creative started the cinema event back in 2009, donating significant time to securing sponsorships, coordinating tasks, and creating the preview reel shown before each movie.

Movie titles are selected by youth members of SRSLY.
