Hatch Stamping, the 62-year-old company that now has three locations in Chelsea, is still growing. On June 16, the company opened a sales office in the Middle Square Professional Building at 134 West Middle St.

“We were running out of space at our Industrial Drive facility, and we wanted to create a separate space for the sales group,” said Steve Emmert, sales manager.

Hatch stamping also has a facility on Cleveland Street in Chelsea as well as manufacturing plants in Howell and Fowlerville and in Mexico.

The company is currently building a plant in Portland, Tennessee, north of Nashville, which Emmert says will create corporate jobs in Chelsea as well.

“We are looking in China,” said Emmert. “A lot of our customers are global customers.”

How did the Hatch family choose Chelsea for its headquarters more than 60 years ago? Because Chelsea was located near the homes of the family members who started the company.

Hatch Stamping is a supply tier two company, which means that it supplies its products to companies that supply the car makers.

“Hatch Stamping puts coils of steel through presses and dye and manufacturers what customers need,” explained Emmert.

The company offers additional services as well as painting and shipping. It has 680 employees, 245 in Chelsea. Those jobs are in manufacturing, engineering, quality, program management and finance.
