The Chelsea Freshman Football team kicked off its season Wednesday night with a 28-14 win at home over Grand Rapids Northview.

Chelsea led 21-0 at half and 28-0 after three quarters — then held on in the fourth quarter for the 28-14 victory.

Jacob Grubbs ran for two touchdowns and caught one TD pass.  Ryan Bost scored on a long touchdown reception.  Thomas Steele threw both TD passes.

Blake Engler, Andy Xaio, and James Mida were the leading tacklers for the Bulldogs.

Up front Jeret Hirst and Wesley Sullivan played really strong games on both sides of the ball.

“I was pleased with the effort and execution for a first game,” the coach said. “The kids have really grown a lot since Aug. 11. Northview did not have a lot of kids, and that made it difficult for them.  We have a long way to go to become a good team, but this is a nice first step. I just want us to keep improving so when they get to the next level, they will be ready.”
