Seven new teachers ready to begin the new school year

Meet the new Chelsea teachers for the 2012-13 school year.

(Publisher’s note: Lindsay Heckler substituted in the school district for Trisha Pollack last year. Pollack is not a new teacher. This error has been corrected.)

A total of 16 new staff members, including seven new teachers, tech assistants and parapros will begin work on Sept. 4 when the Chelsea District schools open their doors this school year.

Monday, Aug. 20, they gathered in the Chelsea High School Commons for a luncheon.

Lindsey Heckler will be a 3rd grade teacher at South Meadows. She’s already picked a theme for her classroom “fired up for some more learning.” She was a long-term substitute for Tricia Pollack, and said she’s excited to now be a full-time part of the district’s teaching team.

Emily Myers will be a family and consumer science, (life management teacher) at the high school. She said she’s looking forward to getting back to a small-town community after teaching previously in South Bend, Ind.

Melissa McIntosh will be teaching math and computer science at the high school. “Chelsea seems like such a small close-knit community that focuses so much on education. I’m looking forward to teaching math, which has been my favorite subject since third grade, and helping develop the computer program.”

Holly Reiser will teach science at the high school — freshman and AP biology. She’s taught in Chelsea before, she said, and can’t wait to teach students who are as excited about science as she is.

Bridgette Keeneman will split her time teaching Spanish at the Middle School and teaching English as a Second Language throughout the district. She’s looking forward to exposing students to a second language as well as working with the ESL students.

Cameron Groenewoud is an Early Childhood Special Education teacher at North Creek. “I look forward to getting to know my students. For some it will be their first experience with school and I can’t want to show them how fun it is to learn.”
