The Lima Township Board met on Monday, June 8, with about half a dozen people in attendance.
For several years, the Lima Board has been debating the future of the Lima Township Hall. According to Dangerous Architects, who have been working with the township to come up with options, “Lima Township is exploring three different options for a new township hall and office space. The existing building does not accommodate office size requirements or the barrier free code.”
The three options include:
- adding onto the historic hall
- building a new building next to the existing hall
- adding onto the nearby Chelsea Area Construction Agency (CACA) building, where the township is currently leasing space for its offices.
The board, along with a subcommittee headed by Ed Greenleaf, have decided to ask the opinion of township residents, and a survey will be included with the summer property tax bills, which should arrive in mailboxes in early July.
Although residents don’t have to pay their summer taxes until the beginning of September, the board would appreciate it if the survey could be returned as quickly as possible. Elected officials also reminded residents that the survey can be taken to the drop box located in the CACA building at 12172 Jackson Road.
Two resolutions were unanimously adopted, each amending the zoning ordinance.
Section 3.3 dealing with Special Use Permits was amended so that the power to grant special land uses is shifted from the Board of Trustees to the Planning Commission, and the required public hearings will take place at Planning Commission meetings rather than at board meetings.
Section 5.48 of the zoning ordinance was amended to clarify language about placement of utilities at a wireless communications facility.
Township Supervisor Craig Maier reported that 45 Neighborhood Watch signs have gone up, and thanked Bill Coury for all his help with the installations.
In other news, Paul Frisinger was appointed as interim Zoning Administrator while Tom Caplis is on medical leave.
