(Chelsea Update would like to thank Frank Hammer and the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority for the information in this column.)
Reggie the Recycling Raccoon says: I really hope you had a ripping-good July 4th with loads of family fun and fabulous fireworks.
Reggie also hopes all those at-home fireworks and sparklers were handled safely, and that there was only celebration and no regrets.
Speaking of fireworks, Reggie reminds everyone that the remnants are both highly flammable, and they contaminate the recycle product stream. So Please, PLEASE do not put them in the recycle bins. Those items are definitely rubbish, with no useful second life.
Reggie’s Royal Recycling Review: Remnant fireworks cannot be recycled. Soak them thoroughly in water, and then throw them in the trash.
