Chelsea-based United Methodist Retirement Communities (UMRC) recently announced it has been recognized with EAGLE Accreditation, an elite faith-based distinction that sets it apart among U.S. senior living agencies, by the United Methodist Association.

The organization is one of just 17 Eagle-Accredited older adult ministries in the nation, and Michigan’s first.

EAGLE (Educational Assessment Guidelines Leading toward Excellence) is the only faith-based accrediting body in the world. Its goal is to recognize organizations that voluntarily go beyond the minimum requirements of licensure to improve operational processes and outcomes.

“At UMRC, we pride ourselves on the quality results and service excellence we deliver for seniors. What this accreditation tells us is that our operational strategies and processes – the things that are happening behind the scenes as we provide our caring outcomes – are also functioning at an extraordinarily high level,” said John Thorhauer, UMRC president and CEO.

“Our entire organizational house is in order, which ultimately translates into very effective, affordable solutions for the people we serve. It truly is a mark of distinction,” he said.

The Accreditation applies to UMRC, the UMRC Foundation, Chelsea Retirement Community, the Cedars of Dexter and The Pines Senior Apartments. The award will be formally presented at the United Methodist Association annual meeting in May 2017.

“This new accreditation provides a strong objective mark of distinction for UMRC,” Thorhauer said. “We simply couldn’t be more pleased. Our dedicated, hardworking staff and board leadership can be very proud of all they have worked to accomplish together.”
