Chelsea Boys Track Competes at Golden Triangle Meet

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Eric Swager for the information in this story, and individual results are at the bottom of this story.)

The Chelsea Boys track and field team competed at the Golden Triangle meet in Saline last Friday.

Coach Eric Swager called it, “a rainy, cold affair for most of the day, but those with great attitudes made the best of it, and we had some outstanding performances.”

He said by 4 p.m., the weather had cleared, “and it was truly a nice day to finish the meet.”

Tom Oates finished a close 2nd in the Elite 1600, just getting caught at the line – but turned in the #1 time in division 2 this year with his 420.89 effort.

Liam Heaney had a monster race, dropping another 6 seconds off his mile PR by running 427.   He also earned a coveted “Golden Triangle” medal.

Chris Roush took advantage of improved conditions to run a sizzling 51.09 in the 400 to take 3rd overall. He beat many of the higher seeded athletes, and just simply ran tough.

Our final placer was James Mida, who earned a 7th place medal for his shot put.

“Many young guys had lifetime bests, especially in the freshman mile,” the coach said. “It goes to show that those who maintain a positive, competitive attitude in spite of the weather will be rewarded.”
