5 Healthy Towns announces grant funding for interventions

By Lisa Carolin

Interventions in Chelsea that applied for grants from 5 Healthy Towns now know how much they will be receiving.

The Year 7 budget has been announced for each of the 5 Healthy Towns Foundation’s Wellness Coalitions and the amount is $75,000 for each Coalition.

The Chelsea Coalitions Year 7 Plan budget was recommended by this year’s Plan Team, and the budget was reviewed and approved at the Chelsea Coalition’s January 11 meeting.

The Chelsea Coalition’s Year 7 Plan will be officially reviewed and voted on for approval at the 5 Healthy Towns Foundation’s April Board Meeting.

Below is a list of Chelsea’s interventions and what each will receive this year.

The only intervention that is not receiving what it requested is the DTE Sugarloop Trail (part of the new trail system in Waterloo State Recreation Area), which requested $40,000 but is getting $17,136.30.

Adaptive Movement (Ballet Chelsea’s Adaptive Dance Program) intervention will receive $8,000

Camp Gabika (Chelsea Community Education summer camp) will receive $6,000

CCK Kids Cooking Program (Chelsea Community Kitchen) will receive $2,363.70

Chelsea Farmers Market will receive $16,500

Heart and Sole (run, walk, and bike event) will receive $2,000

Ironclad Baseball (Vintage Base Ball Club) will receive $1,000

Run for the Rolls (race) will receive $2,000

SRSLY (community coalition dedicated to preventing destructive behavior in Chelsea youth) will receive $20,000.

The Chelsea interventions requested a total of $97,863.70. The 5 Healthy Towns Board of Directors approves the foundation’s budget every fiscal year, and that amount can be $50,000, $75,000, or $100,000.
