The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office wants residents to be advised that:

The Wolverine Pipeline Company will be conducting a “hydrostatic” test tonight, Sept. 12 beginning at 8 p.m. for 8 hours. This means they will apply high pressure to water in the pipeline that runs from Jackson County eastward to their facility on Ellsworth Road just east of Fletcher Road.

This pipeline runs through the following areas:

  • Northwestern Freedom Township
  • Northern Sharon Township
  • Southwestern Sylvan Township

A greenish colored dye has been added to the pressurized water, so if there is a leak the water will appear like the color of Mountain Dew soda.

Following tonight’s test, on Tuesday and Wednesday, Wolverine will filter the dye and discharge the 1.4 million gallons of test water into a county drain that leads to Pleasant Lake. The discharge has been approved by MDEQ.

All public safety personnel have been briefed.

If you experience any pipeline leaks (bright green discharge) or low-lying flooding (filtered pipeline water) call 9-1-1.
