Applications open for ‘100 Women Who Care’

By Lisa Carolin

It’s been more than two years since Chelsea area resident April Gasbarre brought the 100 Women Who Care concept to Chelsea.

Applications for membership to the group are now open.

The 100 Women Who Care is a charitable initiative that can turn small gifts into much larger ones for worthy, local causes. Gasbarre says she was inspired by the idea that someone of modest means can pool her resources with like-minded individuals to make a meaningful impact on a community.

The 100 Women concept was launched by Karen Dunigan in 2006 in Jackson, when she had the idea to launch a drive for portable cribs and raised the $10,000 needed by asking 100 women to each write a check for $100. The rule is that any member of the group can present an immediate need in the community as long as the money remains local.

The group meets three times a year, in February, June, and October for just an hour, at which time members select a local charity for which to raise money.

The first award meeting for 100 Women Who Care-Chelsea Area will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020 at Robin Hills Farm.
