Chelsea police and firefighters will be honored at Monday night’s Kiwanis Club of Chelsea weekly meeting that begins at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria.

Everyone is invited to the meeting to show their appreciation of their protections services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

“We enjoy this evening very much each year.  It is great to hear from the two Chiefs about what is going on and plans for the future,” says Bob Milbrodt.

In addition, this week also begins the Kiwanis annual Adopt a Highway project.  “We have been participating in the Michigan Department of Transportation program since its inception in 1990,” Milbrodt says.

Kiwanis has “adopted” a 3-mile stretch of I-94 from Pierce Road to Freer Road, both the south and north sides.

“We always fill dozens of trash bags of items apparently thrown from vehicles along the highway.  We even find dozens of 10-cent returnable cans and bottles, which were made returnable just so that people would not throw them out the window.  We would love not to have to pick up the mess made by inconsiderate individuals,” he says.

The speakers typically begin at 6:45 p.m., and everyone is invited to the meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
