Chelsea Area Festivals and Events (CAFE) would like to thank the Chelsea area community for another successful season. The non-profit organizes the 10-week concert series “Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights” along with the “Sounds & Sights Festival.”

“The 2019 Sounds & Sights season has been amazing. We can already see the positive impact it has had on the community and local arts,” says Event Coordinator, Denise Cugliari. “We are thankful for the loyal support of our sponsors, local merchants, and the many volunteers who make Sounds and Sights possible.”

Throughout the 10-week run of Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights, more than 100 entertainment acts performed throughout downtown Chelsea. This week, the finale includes some of the season’s best music and family entertainment.

Starting at the Palmer Commons stage, spectators can enjoy award-winning Singer/Songwriter, John Latini. Across the street, Bill Bynum and Company, take listeners on a unique journey through Bill’s original songs ranging from Country to Bluegrass at Katie’s Korner on the Library Lawn.

At South Street, Bus Stop Poets perform high-energy, original, Americana-Rock alongside the Motown-inspired girl group, The Lafayettes.  The groups combine stellar musicianship, three-part harmony, and choreography to create a high-quality and fun experience.

At East Middle Street, The Motor City Boogie Woogie Kid plays New Orleans Swing Era favorites from the ’20s, ’30s, and ’40s.  And down the road, Cellar Cats performs rock-n-roll at Sylvan Courtyard.

Doctor Pizza, an instrumental quartet that creates smooth, funky, psychedelic space Jazz, performs at the Glazier Building. Around the corner at the Clocktower Gazebo, King Family Band play bluegrass.

There is something for the whole family including Eric the Juggler at the Clocktower Courtyard Stage as well as the family-run balloon twisting company, 3 Generations Entertainment at the Main Street Alley.

The “Sights” of Sounds and Sights include the “How To Chalk” seminars each week beneath the Clocktower. Everyone is invited to transform the pavement into colorful works of art.  This week the focus is the Farm. Visitors are also invited to explore the new installation of SculptureWalk Chelsea, a self-guided walking tour of 13 juried sculptures.

Thursday, Aug. 15 is also the start of the #ShopChelseaMich annual sidewalk sales.  More than 20 locally owned businesses will have specials and bargains that you can’t find anywhere else.

Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights, presented by Rick Taylor Real Estate, can offer free entertainment to the community thanks to over one-hundred sponsors, including the Chelsea District Library, Chelsea and Chelsea State Bank, Jiffy Mix, and St. Joseph Mercy. CAFE would also like to give a special thanks to the City of Chelsea employees, the Chelsea Police, and the Chelsea Area Fire Authority for their services throughout the events.
