For more than 30 years, Merkel Gardens & Greenhouses has been a vendor at local farmers markets including the Chelsea Saturday market. George Merkel, his daughter Margaret Stech, and her husband Bill Stech, all participate in the business.

Merkel offers a full range of bedding plants, perennials, vegetable plants and hanging baskets and does cut flowers for special events.

Customers can also purchase plants at the location of the Merkel’s greenhouses at 142 Van Buren St. in Chelsea.

At the Saturday market, you’ll also find tomatoes, corn, beans, squash, apples, peaches, cheese, meat, soy candles, pottery, baked goods and more.

The Saturday Chelsea Farmers Market is located in the municipal parking lot by the library along Park Street and runs from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
