August: Itchy Pet Awareness Month

Although your pet can develop an allergy or itchiness any time of the year, veterinarians are offering resources and discounts on products to help pet owners and their pets with the problem.

As the seasons change, veterinarians see more pets with itchiness – sometimes scratching themselves into a frenzy other times to the point of infection as they scratch and open the skin.

Pets do get randomly itchy, just like we do, as irritants hit our skin. But similar to humans, pets can also develop allergic reactions to anything – even after years of eating or touching something that never bothered them before.

Veterinarians are treating more and more pets for excessive itchiness. Fortunately, recent breakthroughs in veterinary medicine have enabled them to significantly improve the patient’s comfort and control the itch. Keep in mind, though, if your pet is itchy, it may be a sign of more significant illness.

Lane Animal Hospital has partnered with Zoetis Petcare this month to offer a discount up to 25-percent off Cytopoint – an injectable product that lasts 4-8 weeks to help control the itch and replace a daily pill.

The animal hospital is also offering 10-percent off all other topical dermatologic products in hospital for the month, so if your pet is currently using any of our shampoos or conditioners it is a great month to take advantage of the savings.
