Beach Middle School Swim Team Erie Mason Invitational champs

The Beach Middle School swim team brought home the championship trophy from the Erie Mason Invitational this weekend, winning with 432 points.

Milan was second with 285 points, Dundee was third, Riverview was fourth, Erie Mason was fifth and Greenhills was sixth.

The Bulldogs took first place in 8 of the 11 events with 8th grader Jordan Smith setting a school diving record, winning the meet with 179.40 points. The previous record of 172.45 points was set by Jacob Burris in 2011.

Joey Mangner was voted by coaches as the top swimmer of the meet after winning the 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly.

Preston Ewald was another double winner taking first place in the 100 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Kurt Jolly took first place in the 100 backstroke and was joined by Mangner, Ewald and Zach Lee for 1st place in both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Other top 12 finishers were Collin Babycz, Clara Nelsen, Connor Gilbreath, Molly Olk, Taylor Brodbeck, Greta Robbins, Brian Jacobs, Ellie Doman, Lily Francisco, Tim Lyons, Nick Beatty, Logan Mahalak, Catherine Wellman and Lorenzo Melendez.

The team travels to Milan Wednesday, Jan. 23, for their last dual meet of the season before the MISCA State Invitational the first weekend in February.
