The Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) board met on Tuesday, Sept. 16 — there was a quorum, but absent were Vice Chairman Craig Maier and board member Tom Osborne.

The lease for the Lima substation has been signed, but work has yet to begin on the building. The owner of the building has switched contractors, and is now using Dexter Builders. There has been no update on the potential occupancy date, but Chief Jim Payeur stated that the new target occupancy date is January, 2015.

According to Board Member Kurt Kosek, January, 2015 is also when the final contract with the union should be ready to go. Kosek reported that he has been meeting with the union every two weeks or so, and everything is on schedule.

Board Chairman Rod Anderson stated that the 2015 CAFA budget needs to be drafted in time for a November work session, with final approval expected at the Dec. 16 regular meeting. There is, however, some uncertainty surrounding the final budget until the details of the union contract are complete.

In other news, CAFA is moving forward with hiring YourSource Management Group, a human resources firm located in Auburn Hills (see previous story). Payeur recommended funding options, and the CAFA board voted to create a new budget line item to accommodate this action.
