Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority invites area residents to “like, follow and share” its new and improved WWRA Facebook page, www.facebook.com/wwrarecycles.

The WWRA will be using the page to keep the community updated on everything the community needs to know about their mission and all things “reduce, reuse, and recycle.”

“Our Facebook page will be much more active and proactive than our organization website,” said Shawn Personke, PR/Outreach Consultant for the WWRA. “Folks will be able to ask questions, find information about special events, such as the Spring Clean Up Day, and more.”

The regular WWRA website will continue to serve as an information resource for the community, she said.

The WWRA also offers local organizations and schools the opportunity to host a speaker from the WWRA to learn about what is recycled, the quantity of materials that are saved from the landfill, and what happens to these materials after processing. Youth groups may also have the chance to meet the WWRA mascot, Reggie the Recycling Raccoon.

The WWRA is a partnership of several municipalities working together to find alternative ways to handle waste and promote recycling. Representatives from each of the municipalities (City of Chelsea, Dexter Township, Lima Township, Lyndon Township, and Manchester Township) are voting members of the WWRA board. Bridgewater Township holds an associate membership. It is a non-profit public recycling program that was formed in 1991 with a state grant, which helped finance the construction of the facility located at 8025 Werkner Road in Chelsea.
