Chelsea Area Fire Authority Adds Paid on Call Firefighter

The Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) has a new paid-on-call firefighter named Tim Ross who Chief Rob Arbini said joins CAFA with more than 20 years of experience in the fire service.

Ross joins a roster of five paid on call firefighters: Sophie DeTroyer, Adrian Eder, Bill Regnier, Luke Rescorla, and Charles Dahlgren.

In other business, the CAFA Board also unanimously approved a 1-year lease with Lyndon Township for Station No. 3 at 17751 North Territorial Road. The lease includes $1 per month rent and $250 per month for utilities and maintenance such as snow plowing and grass cutting.

CAFA will also be responsible for paying for normal wear and tear in the building such as carpeting and paint. The costs for any improvements to the one-office, one-bay space will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

The board also approved changes to the CAFA bylaws that eliminate redundances. In addition, provisions were added for compensation for board members that are incurred outside the attendance of monthly board meetings.

Discussions continue for a possible new location for Fire Station No. 1 in the City of Chelsea including the start of a needs assessment. Any potential location changes are in the exploratory phase.

The next meeting will take place on May 18 at 9 a.m. via Zoom.
