Thanks in large part to a Federal grant, Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) has received about 4,600 feet of much needed new fire hose.
Through a county-wide grant that was written by Ann Arbor Township Fire Department Lt. Marc Volger, CAFA was able to afford boxes and boxes of fire hose was delivered to Fire Station 1 Monday afternoon.
Included was about 2,000 feet of 5-inch hose, which Fire Capt. Scott Basar said is typically used for connections to fire hydrants.
There was another 1,200 feet of 1 3/4-inch hose which is used for residential fire fighting. Also included was about 1,400 feet of 2 1/2 inch hose, which is typically used for commercial fires and “large flow water fires” such as a barn fire, said Chief Robert Arbini.
Basar said that each of the 6 fire trucks have at least 1,000 feet of 5-inch hose, 600 feet of 2 1/2 inch hose and about 400 feet of 1 3/4 inch hose loaded on them when they leave the fire station.
