Chelsea Boys Track and Field SEC Champions

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Eric Swager for the information in this story. Full results at the bottom.)

For the fifth time in the past six years, Chelsea High School Track and Field won the league title.

“It was a tough road this year, fighting back from a dual meet loss to Adrian,” said coach Eric Swager. “I am extremely proud of the guys, and the way they showed up to compete.”

The distance crew once again led the charge, spearheaded by Tom Oates’ amazing 4 gold medals in the distance events.  In my mind, this has only been repeated once before – Chelsea’s own Bryce Bradley in 2012, Swager said.

Liam Heaney and Connor Gilbreath also scored in 4 events.

Jensen Holm earned all SEC honors in the 3200.

The three-senior sprinters (Cooper, Buckley, Roush) stepped up big, scoring nearly 50 points of their own.  A big turning point was James Mida winning the shot put, while coming into the meet ranked 7th. He had a 2-foot PR in that event, and also finished SEC Runner up.

“There were many other top notch performances across the board, and I am proud of the whole group,” the coach said.

The Bulldogs will compete in the regional finals at Monroe Jefferson Friday.

“We would like to thank our groupies for all their support,” Swager said.
