With the Chelsea City Council approving a series of road closures for the annual Kiddie Parade and Fair Parade at its regular meeting on July 19, the official countdown to the 83rd Annual Chelsea Community Fair has begun.

After COVID forced the volunteer fair board to cancel normal fair activities last year, this year’s event is expected to be bigger and better than ever.

And these two parades are two of the most popular family fun events that will take place from Tuesday, Aug. 24-28. For more information about additional events, please click here.

On Wednesday, Aug. 25, look for the following road closures from 5-30-6:30 p.m. throughout town to ensure the safety of the youth participating in the annual Kiddie Parade that begins in the parking lot behind the Common Grill and ends at the Chelsea Community Fairgrounds.

The following streets will be intermittently closed:

  • West Middle Street between Main and Grant streets
  • Grant Street between West Middle and Pierce streets
  • Pierce Street between Grant and Taylor streets
  • Taylor Street between Pierce Street and Old US-12
  • Old Manchester Road between Old US 12 and the south entrance gate to the fairgrounds

On Saturday, Aug. 28, to accommodate the annual fair parade, the following streets will be closed from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. so parade entrants can lineup and make their way from downtown to the fairgrounds.

  • East Middle Street between Main and East streets
  • East Street between East Middle and Adams streets
  • Adams Street between East and Madison streets
  • Jefferson Street between East and Madison streets
  • Harrison Street between East and Madison streets
