Chelsea City Council OK’s Locations for Farmers Markets

In May, visitors to the two Chelsea Farmers Markets can expect to find the Wednesday Market in the Chelsea State Bank parking lot and the Saturday Farmers Market in Palmer Commons downtown.

Both markets will strictly follow the current state and CDC protocols that are in place throughout the season.

By a unanimous vote Tuesday night during the Zoom Chelsea City Council meeting, the elected officials agreed to charge the Farmers Market $1,000 to use Palmer Commons for the market season, which will run from May 1 to Oct. 30.

In addition, the City Council unanimously approved a request to hold the Wednesday Farmers Market location in the bank parking lot and this market will begin the afternoon of May 5 and take place each Wednesday through Oct. 27.

Market Manager Emily Griswold said despite the extra work, it’s nice to have two different locations for the Farmers Markets. She said for the mid-week market, the bank parking lot location can be seen from different directions at its 1010 South Main St. location.

The approval was contingent on Griswold supplying the city with an updated certificate of insurance.
