The Chelsea High School Equestrian Team went to the Ingham County Fairgrounds in Mason on Saturday, Sept. 9 for its first district meet of the year and came away with a very satisfying result given the size and experience of the team.

This year’s team consists of 4 riders: senior Kaylin Dever, junior Rheana Grudzinski, and freshmen Talena Roberson and Erin Frank.

Everyone contributed points to the team en route to a 6th place standing. Coach Trenda Eversole said “The kids did great, and I can’t wait to see how well everyone does this coming weekend.”

The team was led by Grudzinski who took 1st in Flags and Speed and Action while placing 2nd in Barrel Racing. Frank placed 3rd in Saddle Seat Fitting and Showing, 5th in Western Bareback, and 7th in both English Equitation and English Fitting and Showing. Roberson and Dever finished 4th and 5th, respectively, in Saddle Seat Fitting and Showing.

The team will return to Mason this coming weekend for the final 2 district meets, one each on Saturday and Sunday.

The top two teams after the three meets will move on to the regional meet, also held in Mason.
