The Chelsea Area Garden Club (CAGC) will award a limited number of grants of $500 or less in spring 2015 to local nonprofit organizations for horticulture projects that benefit the community.
Projects should align with the club’s goals: Promote gardening, community beautification, and environmentally responsible horticultural practices and conservation through education in the Chelsea area.

Mail applications to the CAGC Grant Program, P.O. Box 519, Chelsea, MI 48118. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 28, 2015.
Applicants who live in the CAGC service area, primarily western Washtenaw County, will be given preference. Not every applicant may receive funding.
Grant recipients will report on their projects at the garden club’s noon meeting Oct. 12, 2015 at Chelsea First United Methodist Church.
The garden club awarded $3,700 in grants and scholarships in 2014. Grant recipients included:
- Chelsea Senior Center Intergenerational Garden for its hoop house campaign.
- St. Louis Center in Chelsea to build and plant two handicap-accessible raised bed gardens.
- Chelsea Go-Getters 4-H Club for a native wildflower garden at the Eddy Discovery Center entrance at Waterloo Recreation Area.
- Grass Lake Sanctuary for its Women’s Wellness Alumni Wisdom of the Heart Garden.
Additionally, four Michigan State University Organic Farmer Training Program received scholarships, and the club donated money for two scholarships for the Washtenaw County Master Gardener Program.
The club raises funds for horticulture–related grants and scholarships and for civic beautification through its spring plant sale. The plant sale will be held on May 9 from 8 a.m.-noon at the Chelsea Community Fairgrounds, 20501 W. Old U.S. Highway 12.
