Chelsea Girls Track and Field 2nd in D2 Regional; 7 girls Headed to State Meet

The Chelsea girls track and field team placed 2nd out of 15 teams at the D2 Regional held at Monroe-Jefferson on Friday, May 19.

Tecumseh won the regional with 83.75 points, while Chelsea had 83.25 points.

It was “one of the closes regional meets I have every been part of or know of,” said coach Loren Thorburn, who added, “We had solid performances in many of our events and several season records and personal records.”

Seven athletes will compete in six events at the D2 State Meet, which will be held in Zeeland on Saturday, June 3.

“I am very proud of team effort,” Thorburn said.

Highlights

Hannah Almhiemid was a double Regional Champion. Hannah was first in the 100m hurdles with season record of 15.87 and 1st in the 300m hurdles with a personal record of 48.18.

Anna Piloske was Regional Runner-Up in the discus with a throw of 95′ 2″.

Jenna Gileczek was Regional Runner -Up in the pole vault with a seasonal record jump of 10′.

The 4x400m Relay of Kaehla Manly, Myranda Montoye, Hannah Almhiemid, and Sydney Matusik was Regional Runner-Up and ran their second fastest time of the year.

Additional state qualifiers who made the state cuts in their events on Friday were Sydney Matusik in the 400m dash with a time of 60.29 and Sabrina Matusko in the pole vault with a personal record of 9′.
