Chelsea girls waterpolo recap

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Michelle Elie for the information and photo gallery with this story.)

Here’s a summary of the team’s activities from last week.

Pioneer 8, Chelsea 2

In the district seed game against Pioneer, Chelsea put up a good fight and was down 2-3 at the half, but ended the game with an 8-2 loss. Seniors and captains Maria Elie and Kaylin Zocharski both scored goals.

Other team standouts were goalie Catherine Wellman and senior Emmah Boquette.

At Mason’s Bulldog Battle, Chelsea went 3-1 with wins against Portage Northern, Lake Orion and Holt/East Lansing.  The team’s one loss was 4-1 to Grand Blanc. Chelsea senior and captain Marie Ellie was the team’s high scorer. Other goal scorers included: Emmah Boquette, Kaylin Zocharski, Clair Dettling, Melissa Jolly, and Nikki Atchley.

Pam Mercado had an outstanding defensive game against both Holt/East Lansing and Grand Blanc and sophomore goalie Catherine Wellman was outstanding blocking 91 percent of the shots on goal.

The team plays Thursday at home, which is senior night vs. HOTEL (combo of Holt and E. Lansing), and then in the Grand Haven Invitational this weekend.
