Chelsea Human Rights Commission Has Board Opening

By Lisa Carolin

Anyone interested in learning more about the Chelsea Human Rights Commission (HRC) will have a chance at the upcoming Chelsea Expo. That was discussed at the HRC’s April 5 meeting.

The HRC will have a table at the April 15 event, which runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and will be held at the Washington Street Education Center. Members of the HRC will be there to answer questions.

At the April 5 meeting, members agreed to a $1,000 budget for 2023, which includes $100 for the Expo, $200 for Juneteenth and Gay Pride Month, $300 for MLK Day, and $400 for Civility Month.

Also discussed was a review of the HRC’s Non-discrimination Ordinance. Suggested changes by members include duties of the commission as well as its role in the complaint procedure. The next step will be to work with Chelsea City Attorney Mariah Fink on the changes and come up with a presentation for Chelsea City Council.

There is currently an opening on the HRC. For more information, go to https://www.city-chelsea.org/boards-committees-commissions.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the HRC is on May 3 at 7 p.m.
