Chelsea District Library (CDL) is thrilled to announce the return of Music in the Air on June 1.
This annual event brings the beauty of classical music out of the concert hall and into the lovely CDL Reading Garden. No longer restricted by expensive ticket costs, formal attire, and the need to sit perfectly still, this concert has become a beloved library tradition by guests of all ages each June.
This year, CDL is thrilled to add an additional children’s concert to the day’s events.
Jacopo & Maddalena Giacopuzzi have performed concerts for the CDL audience since 2017. Born in Italy to a family of pianists, both took an interest in music from an early age; when Jacopo became serious about the piano, younger sibling Maddalena was soon to follow. While their style and application are different, their continued love of music and astonishing talent are shared. Both Jacopo and Maddalena Giacopuzzi gained recognition in several national and international competitions and have performed as soloists and chamber musicians in multiple major international music festivals.
The day’s schedule of events is as follows:
Music in the Air Family Concert | 11–11:45 am | CDL Reading Garden*
No worries about sitting still or making noise—it is all welcome at this upbeat classical piano performance!
Celebrate CDL—A Sustainable Success | 1–2:45 pm | McKune Room
Join us for an open-house style celebration of the library—past, present, and future. 2024 marks a number of milestones: the 25th anniversary of the library district, the 75th anniversary of the Friends of CDL, the 65th anniversary of library services in the historic McKune House, and the payoff of our 20-year building bond. Mingle with the Friends, explore CDL and Friends history, take a look at the strategic plan, check out useful library resources, and enjoy light refreshments.
Music in the Air | 3–4 pm | CDL Reading Garden*
The CDL celebration will culminate at the annual Music in the Air concert. We will kick off the concert with a ceremonial burning of the mortgage, as the library’s building bond was paid off on May 1. Then, relax in the Reading Garden as Jacopo and Maddalena Giacopuzzi play solo and four hands, performing works from Schubert, DeBussy, Liszt, Kapustin, and more.
*In the event of inclement weather, Music in the Air events will be held inside. Thank you to the Friends of Chelsea District Library for their sponsorship of Music in the Air. The 2024 Music in the Air concert is held in memory of Henry Cox, its founder.
