Chelsea Planners OK Special Land Use for Wireless Tower

By Lisa Carolin

A Special Land Use Permit and amended final site plan for the modification of ground based and tower mounted equipment at the wireless communication tower located at 570 Cleveland St. in Chelsea was unanimously approved (Jamie Lane, Marcia White absent) by the Chelsea Planning Commission at its Oct. 19 meeting via Zoom.

That vote followed a public hearing at which there were no comments. The approval is contingent on an administrative review of an updated geotechnical report.

The application is from David Connell of SMJ International who is applying to add an additional carrier, AT&T, as well as a generator to the tower, which has been limited to four carriers with 12 antennas each.

The location is a heavily wooded area and there is no need to remove any trees.

In other action, the planning commission recommended to Chelsea City Council to amend articles 7.05 and 7.14 of the City of Chelsea Zoning Ordinance as written in the final text amendment in the planning commission packet. The amendment concerns language used regarding landscaping standards.

The commission also voted to reschedule its November work session to Nov. 9, at 7 p.m.

There is a vacancy on the Chelsea Planning Commission. For more information, go to https://www.city-chelsea.org/boards-committees-commissions.
