From the time he was 9 years old, Keegan Rodgers knew he wanted to own a pastry shop. The talented baker is starting his fifth year of owning the Lakehouse Bakery, located just west of Chelsea on Sugarloaf Road.

The Lakehouse Bakery offers a wide range of baked goods and high end pastries including breads, cakes, cookies, and pies.

“I opened Lakehouse Bakery to fulfill my childhood dream of owning my own pastry shop,” said Rodgers. “I’ve spent 35 years working in the food industry and love it. I’ve been a culinary educator for 15 years, and we have hands-on baking classes throughout the winter.”

He’s proud of Lakehouse Bakery’s inviting atmosphere that features the smells of fresh baked goods ranging from his personal favorite to bake, chocolate chip cookies, to roasted garlic cheddar bread.

“We make everything from scratch using the best ingredients possible,” said Rodgers. “As many of our ingredients are as local as possible. We have a wide range of items available all the time and we rotate out some seasonal favorites like our Whoopie Pie and Hand Pies. We can specialize in gluten free and vegan baking and are happy to make custom items for you anytime.”

Those custom items include cakes for birthdays, weddings, graduations, and any reason to celebrate. Lakehouse Bakery can cater desserts for events for a few people or for hundreds.

Since its start, the bakery has changed the layout of its space and has obtained a license to make and jar its own line of shelf stable gourmet dessert sauces such as Chocolate Merlot and Salted Caramel, which are available online.

“We developed an E-commerce platform on our website and really hope it takes off this year,” said Rodgers. “For now, it’s mainly the dessert sauces and other non-perishable items like our Maple Karma Crunch Granola and our Zesty Croutons, but we are hoping to add in our full line of bread.”

As far as having a bakery near Chelsea, Rodgers says, “Chelsea is the best small town ever. The people are kind, welcoming and have been so supportive of this very small bakery. We will stay in Chelsea for the great friends we’ve made and the incredible community support.”
