(Chelsea Update would like to thank  Jim Duncan for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea High School Theater Guild competed in the Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Association (MIFA) One Act district competition on Jan. 26 and performed well enough to advance to the regionals.

Audrey Bloom and Richie Slater each received Excellence In Acting awards, and the entire company received an award for Best Concept.

Here’s how the competition it works.

Each team has 45 minutes to construct their set, perform the show and take down their set. In the districts, Chelsea competed against Milan, Western, Ann Arbor Huron, Winans Academy and Ann Arbor Pioneer.

If you’d like to see a performance of Chelsea’s One Act show called “Bees.” It will take place on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. at Chelsea High School Auditorium.

Written by Coralie Cederna Johnson of Jackson and directed by Carrie Jay Sayer, the performance is open to everyone and tickets are $5 at the door for all ages and it is general admission seating.

Next up for the Chelsea Theatre Guild is regionals, which take place on Saturday Feb. 9 at Clintondale High School in Clinton Township.
