Cub Scout Pack 455 annual Christmas tree fundraising sale underway

Members of Chelsea Cub Scout Pack 455 and their parents set up the tree stands and began their annual Christmas Tree fundraiser at Polly’s Country Market on Friday.

Traditionally, one of the parent’s said, the scouts have kicked off the tree sale the day after Thanksgiving, to coincide with the start of the Christmas season.

It’s the biggest fundraiser for the pack during the year.

The scouts take two-hour shifts regardless of the weather and on Nov. 23, they fought high winds, cold and snow to set up the display.

There are 100 Douglas fir trees for sale at about $50 each purchased from Arends Tree Farm in Grass Lake. They range in height from 6-9 feet and can be cut to make them shorter.

“We want to thank Polly’s for allowing us to be here,” one parent said, and we donate one tree to them.

The cub scouts will be on site each weekend and in the evening until all the trees have been sold.

Stacked trees.

If you’d like to purchase a tree and there are no scouts on site, Polly’s will collect the money inside and turn it over to the scouts.

The cub scouts and the grocery store have a long history of working together as the scouts previously held a tree sale at the store’s former location.

Both checks and cash are accepted for the trees.

And, although there are about 20 trees displayed at a time, customers may also choose from the stack that hasn’t been unbundled and displayed.

The cub scout tree stand takes shape Friday morning.
