Debut Great Lakes Sporting Arts Show planned for Sept. 8 in Dexter Township

Are you an outdoor sports and art lover who cherishes sporting traditions?

If so, then check out the Great Lakes Sporting Arts Show, a new fine art and fine craft  show on Saturday, Sept. 8 in Dexter Township on Island Lake Road near the trout farm from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Located at 12075 Island Lake Road, the show will include prints and paintings, photography, bamboo rods, watercraft, fly-tying, guns and knives, sculpture and carving and sporting dogs.

“Artists are very very excited, telling their clientele, friends, contacts, and working with me to optimize their set up in the barns,” said Lauren Kingsley, who is putting on the show.

She said Chris Johnson who represents  a traditional Scottish sporting apparel company, and Connecticut Shotgun Company are last additions to the show.

Plus, she said, people are getting excited, too. “I’m getting calls from around the state and in Ohio, from people to whom we’ve sent postcards, from ads we’ve put on line.”

In fact, “random people pull into the driveway to ask about the show,” she said.

Kingsley also hosts Art on the Farm, which will take place Sunday, Oct.28, and both are invitational shows.

“I select people who are the best in their field and invite them,” she said.

She’s expecting quite a few artists are from up north or across the state such as Chris Chantland, “painter of sporting dogs, horses, and wonderful other things,” and David Riccardo, “the most amazing engraving artist you’ll ever find.”

The event will take place rain or shine, there’s free admission and parking and it’s handicap accessible. Food and refreshments will be provided by Pilar’s of Ann Arbor.
