Feb. 6: Kiwanis Club to hear from Mike Kapolka and Marcus Kaemming

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Last Monday, Olivia Vigiletti of Dawn Farm explained all the services available for alcoholics and addicts, which include a free detox program, residential treatment, and continuing support to Chelsea Kiwanis members.

Dawn Farm has been helping folks since 1973, and is the only service of its kind in the area. She wanted to put to rest the misconception that it is not possible to recover from heroin addiction. She proves it with stories of people clean and sober for years.

Vigiletti was joined by two young women who have recovered and are now counselors to others in need. They shared their stories of the damage drugs did to their lives and how Dawn Farm was there for them as they became straight.

This Monday, the club will hear from Chelsea High School Principal Mike Kapolka and Executive Director of Instruction, Curriculum, and Human Resources Marcus Kaemming.

They will discuss some new ways we can help students in the high school in addition to the scholarships our club has funded for graduating senior class members each year.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
