Hospital auxiliary donates another $20,000 to new cancer center

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Russ Billau for the information in this story.)

A check for $20,000 was presented to Nancy Graebner, president and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital, at the Hospital Auxiliary’s Holiday Dinner on Dec. 9.

This check, presented by Auxiliary President Lois Gibson, is the second annual installment of the Auxiliary’s $100,000 pledge toward the Chelsea Cancer Center, bringing the total amount donated to date to $40,000.

Monies for this donation were raised by several fundraisers and the hospital’s Arbor Nook Gift Shop supported throughout the year by the volunteers, hospital employees and community members.
Graebner said that this year marked 30,000 hours of volunteer time.

“We are so proud to have the Cancer Center in Chelsea,” said Graebner.  “All your time and energy are appreciated. With the opening of the Cancer Center, new volunteer spots will be opening and I hope more people will get the Volunteer Bug.”

The North Creek Fiddlers provided music and fun for the approximate 135 members and guests attending the annual Holiday Dinner.  A bittersweet moment was spent recognizing Phil Boham, retiring vice president of the hospital, for his 30 years of service to the hospital and to the Chelsea Community.

The Cancer Center began infusion service to patients on Dec. 15.  Additional services will be added as more work is completed.
