Chelsea First United Methodist Church is honoring the 115th anniversary of the current building, which was dedicated in 1900, with a renovation of the sanctuary.  This will be the first major update to the sanctuary in over 30 years.

With the renovation set to start in a few weeks, the church is inviting everyone inside for a last look at the current space with historical tours of the building, which will begin in the church lobby on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 9:30 and 11 a.m. and on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 12:15 p.m., led by church historian Debbie Noye.

The sanctuary renovation, estimated at $1.5 million, has been in the planning stages for more than 4 years.

Included in the renovations are major electrical and HVAC updates, as well as restoration of the stained glass windows and the original wood pews. Many windows have already been removed for this first step.

The plans also include reworking the front chancel area for greater flexibility, making the sanctuary fully handicap accessible, repair of plaster and widening the entrance area into the sanctuary. During the renovation, the sanctuary will be closed and the congregation will use the Grams Hall fellowship area as worship and meeting space.
