Michigan Emmy-award winning songwriter Kitty Donohoe will team up with area accordion player Suzanne Camino to present a program of Irish music on Tuesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. as part of the Kaleidoscope Concert Series at Silver Maples of Chelsea.

Drawing from traditional as well as her own original compositions, Donohoe will sing ballads and songs of Ireland, and will accompany Camino in jigs, reels and waltzes. Long a fan of Irish music, Donohoe has been recording an Irish American album for the past year, with a planned 2013 release.

She says her aim with the new CD is to broadly represent the immigration to America of the almost-40 million US citizens of Irish descent.

“I want to celebrate the immersion of the culture of Ireland into the mainstream of this country,” Donohoe said in a press release.

‘The Irishman’s Daughter’ will be Donohoe’s sixth CD and she’s thrilled to be able to include the musical talents of several well-known Chicago area Irish musicians on the recording, as well as many Ann Arbor area players.

Donohoe recently had a show at the Ark in Ann Arbor to observe her 40 years as a professional musician.

Originally funded by the Chelsea Community Foundation, the series is now funded through donations from community members and businesses. The March concert is sponsored by the Doan Family fund and Chelsea Lumber Company.

The Kaleidoscope Concert is held at Silver Maples, 100 Silver Maples Dr.

The concerts are free, but tickets, available at the Chelsea Senior Center, are required.

Once tickets are gone, patrons are encouraged to come to the show for the second seating when all empty seats are filled.
